Sheffield Hallam University is the largest provider of health and social care training in England, training the local healthcare workforce and developing innovations to improve the health of the region.

We train across the full range of the health workforce: nursing, midwifery, allied health, social care and sport.

Our teaching creates the skilled workforce the NHS needs to deliver better long-term health outcomes for the region and nation. Trainees benefit from learning about a broad range of health professions, working with partners and academics who are leaders in their fields. In the last five years over 8,000 students have qualified as health professionals.

We are specialists in healthcare research, with our outstanding practitioners, scientists, engineers and designers regularly working together to create innovative solutions to global health challenges. Recent examples have included leading trials which prescribe exercise as a treatment for prostate cancer, developing innovative respiratory masks for infants and launching a neck brace that makes life easier for patients living with motor neurone disease.

What next?

Situated at the heart of the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park, the Health Innovation Park (HIP), led by Sheffield Hallam, will co-locate research and innovation alongside education, health, leisure and business. It will be a model of urban development that will drive economic growth, health improvements and community wellbeing.

The potential of the project to generate investment is already being realised. Partners with Sheffield Hallam research institutes to be situated at the HIP include Canon Medical Systems (formerly Toshiba Medical), Westfield Health, parkrun, Siemens, Premier Foods, Warburtons, Mondelez, and the Food and Drink Federation.
